The MILLIE

The Millie was designed as a very compact double treadle wheel that has the ease of use and features that are common to Majacraft wheels. It is unique in design and has a character that will grace any home. The Millie will appeal to spinners on a lower budget who do not wish at this time to invest in a fully featured wheel but enjoy the ease and smoothness of a double treadle wheel.

Although very compact, it offers full orifice height and is built from beautiful New Zealand Rimu. Majacraft pays special attention to treadle angles to ensure that there is minimum strain on ankle and calf muscles while spinning.

The Millie's Specifications

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An individually handcrafted traditional double treadle wheel which features easy of pedalling, multiple ratios. The wheel comes standard with left-hand mounted flyer but is also able to be dissasembled and reversed to allow the bobbin to be mounted on the right hand side. All wheels are numbered, assembled and tested before packaging.

ORIFICE HEIGHT: Adjustable - maximum height is 30 inches.

WEIGHT: 12 lbs. (this varies with wood density of each wheel.

RATIOS: Main ratios are 4:1, 5.25:1 , 7:1, 9.25:1, 12:1. These ratios are approximate due to variations in hand-turned wheels. Intermediate ratios are also available by belt adjustment on the whorl and drive wheel.

WHEEL DIAMETER: 14.4 in. Rim construction is rimu-veneered, medium density fibreboard; spokes and hub are solid Rimu.

CONSTRUCTION TIMBER: New Zealand Rimu.

BEARINGS: Flyer shaft and wheel are mounted on sealed roller bearings. Conrods are mounted on spherical bearings.

BOBBINS: Wheels supplied with four plastic bobbins of large capacity. These bobbins are boilable and almost indestructible.

DRIVE BANDS: Flexible polycord.

TENSION ADJUSTMENT: Head fitted with a scotch tension. Drive belt adjustment is by tilting head in slot.

FLYER DESCRIPTION: Lightweight flyer with delta orifice. Has adjustable flyer hook for easy bobbin filling. Fine-fibre flyer also available.

TREADLE ANGLE: Comfortable heel and toe action hinged 50 millimeters from base of pedals.

FINISH: Finished in a hardwearing, precatalysed lacquer. The wheel is partially disassembled for shipping.

ACCESSORIES: Jumbo flyer hooks for bulky yarn. Lazy kates and other "Majacraft" spinning accessories.
