The Saxonie

The Saxonie combines a classic style and updated design with super smooth heel-and-toe treadling. It can be reversed for left or right spindle and features five ratios, frictionless ball bearings and pitman drive. The Saxonie's Specifications

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An individually handcrafted, traditional double treadle wheel which features easy pedalling, multiple ratios. The wheel comes standard with left-hand mounted flyer but is also able to be dissasembled and reversed to allow bobbin to be mounted on right hand side. All wheels are numbered, assembled and tested before packaging.

ORIFICE HEIGHT: Height is adjustable, standard - 26 inches and 24.8 inches.

WEIGHT: 13.6 lbs (this varies with wood density of each wheel).

RATIOS: Main ratios are 5.25:1, 6.5:1, 8.75:1, 11.5:1, 14.5:1.

WHEEL DIAMETER: 440 millimeters.

CONSTRUCTION TIMBER: New Zealand Rimu. Wheel rim is built from compressed wood.

BEARINGS: Flyer shaft and wheel are mounted on sealed roller bearings. Conrods are mounted on spherical bearings.

BOBBINS: Wheels are supplied with four plastic bobbins of large capacity. These bobbins are boilable and almost indestructible.

DRIVE BANDS: Flexible polycord.

TENSION ADJUSTMENT: Fitted with a scotch tension.

FLYER DESCRIPTION: Lightweight flyer with fine-fiber orifice. Has adjustable flyer hooks for easy bobbin filling.

TREADLE ANGLE: Comfortable heel-and-toe action hinged 50 millimeters from base of pedals.

FINISH: Finished in a hardwearing, precatalysed lacquer. The wheel is partially disassembled for shipping.

ACCESSORIES: Jumbo flyer hooks for bulky yarn. Lazy kates and other "Majacraft" spinning accessories.
