The Suzie

The updates to the Suzie are a pleasing change in modern drive wheel design. This lightweight, folding, travelling wheel features double heel-and-toe treadling, frictionless ball bearings, and a single hook flyer. The Suzie comes with a maintenance-free drive band and super smooth, patented bobbins. It requires no threading hook and is designed for right or left handed use. Accessories available are high speed heads and low speed whorls to extend the spinning range in twelve ratios from 3.25:1 to 32:1.

We also offer a professional model with a green wheel and whorl. This wheel is heavier and slightly larger than the rimu wheel. It gives smoother spinning with greater inertia and is a favourite of many spinners.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: An individually handcrafted folding double treadle upright wheel with light smooth treadle action and a convenient carry handle. Solid drive wheel of laminated construction. Features ease of use, ease of threading with a range of "Majacraft" accessories. All wheels are individually numbered, assembled and tested before packaging.

ORIFICE HEIGHT: Adjustable both vertically and horizontally . Maximum height is 30 inches.

WEIGHT: 14.5 lbs. (This varies with wood density of each wheel.)

RATIOS: Main ratios are 4.1:1, 6.5:1, 9.0:1, 12.0:1, 15.0:1 These ratios are approximate due to variations in handturned wheels. Intermediate ratios are also available by belt adjustment on the drive wheel.

WHEEL DIAMETER: 330 millimeters.

CONSTRUCTION TIMBER: New Zealand Rimu.

BEARINGS: Flyer shaft and wheel are mounted on sealed roller bearings. Conrods are mounted on spherical bearings.

BOBBINS: Wheels supplied with four plastic bobbins of large capacity. These bobbins are boilable and almost indestructible.

DRIVE BANDS: Flexible polycord.

TENSION ADJUSTMENT: Head fitted with a scotch tension. Drive belt adjustment is by sliding head vertically in slot.

FLYER DESCRIPTION: Lightweight flyer with delta orifice for easy threading. Has adjustable flyer hooks for easy bobbin filling. Fine-fiber flyer also available.

TREADLE ANGLE: Comfortable heel-and-toe action hinged 50 millimeters from base of pedals.

FINISH: Finished in a hardwearing, precatalysed lacquer. The wheel is partially disassembled for shipping.

ACCESSORIES: High speed head giving ratios up to 32:1, lazy kates and other spinning accessories.
